THEACRUS
PROBE EXAMINE GREET QUEST WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW IF YOU WANT TO KILL HIM
You greet Theacrus the wood cutter with a smile.
The wood cutter reaches for his pipe and tinderbox, and after a brief spark of
flame he begins to take hearty puffs on his pipe.
Theacrus smiles at you and bids you sit down and listen to his tales.
As the air fills with the sweet smell of megillos, the wood cutter spins a
yarn from the days of his youth. He tells you he used to wander the Greenwood
in days before dark creatures dwelled in the mountains, and speaks of a great
outpost of learning known as Alessandria. You receive the clear impression he
once lived there.
Theacrus drifts off into half spoken conversations with himself, although you
catch phrases most of which seem to concern "they're burning the bridges". He
looks down saddened for a moment, and then turns to smile and relight his
pipe, which had gone out.
Theacrus giggles and tells you of the legend of the nymphs of the Greenwood,
who would grow from tiny proportions to size, either to assist men of courage
in danger, or enchant them under the eaves of the forest. His eyes mist over
with memories once more.
Theacrus turns to you "You know what I love most? Trinkets! Trinkets from the
olden days!". He blushes and returns to his pipe, embarrassed by his
outburst.
The wood cutter whispers to you in a confidential manner.
"Let me tell you this, 'tis said that only one forming the correct runestone
and singing the chant of Eucrades, may enter the halls of knowledge, now that
they have been sealed from a cruel world." he says and falls silent.
You notice Theacrus eye his wood pile, assessing how soon he should chop more.
SUN AND MOON ORDER MEMBER
You greet Theacrus the wood cutter with a smile.
Theacrus eyes you steadily and smiles. "I see you are a member of the order of Orestes, and thus
must be of good mettle. Perhaps you can assist me for I have a quest of some great importance to
the good peoples."
Theacrus continues, "I wish to restore the ford of Alessandria, so that once more the good people
may set foot upon the enchanted isle. But for this must be given an offering to the water spirits
that dance through the river bed encircling the isle."
Theacrus asks of you, "You must go to the western bank of the river of Alessandria, and therein
find the oak tree which dwells beside the water's edge. Pour water from the pool of life upon its
roots, and it will reveal the desire of the river nymphs.". The woodcutter bids you upon your
quest.
