Melting the Ice Halls Quest
RAISE LAMP
There is a spectacular burst of light from the lantern, all but striking you blind. Then you feel a tremendous heat rise in the lantern's handle, to emanate from the globe at the heart of the lamp. Strangely the heat does not affect you, although the first drops of water fall from the walls of the ice hall.
Great drops of water being falling from above to splatter upon the icy floor of the cavern, and soon rivulets slide down the walls. The pulsating heat from the lamp grows stronger until all about you the frozen water reverts to its liquid form, although the heat seems to simply pass through the air about you without so much as stirring a single bead of sweat.
The water level begins to rise sharply in the chamber as great rivers of melt-water now pour from the disfiguring sculptures of ice, revealing the stucco walls of a magnificent temple beneath. The water seems to run downhill into the mines below.
Huge shards of melting ice begin splintering to fall upon the stone ground about you before quickly melting into puddles of snow. Your vision is surrounded by the haze of the lantern's burning heat, yet emerging from its frozen incarceration you realise that you stand within a temple of an ancient deity.
The floor now a veritable torrent of water, the final few pieces of ice melt away to drain down to the lower levels. The temple of Orthanius, god of fire is revealed once more, aglow with the golden light of the lantern.
